Where teams go green.

Sports and the environment have always been inextricably linked. Wherever wide open lands, endless stretches of ice and snow or bodies of water have beckoned, humankind has transformed them into playing fields. Soccer and football. Cricket and croquet. Ice hockey and skiing. Regattas and white-water rafting. The games we love today were born outdoors and still enjoyed to the fullest on fields and in parks, on beaches and on mountainsides, in oceans and streams. Without clean air, clean water and a healthy climate, our enjoyment of most sports would not be possible.

NRDC has teamed up with professional sports organizations to create a series of team Greening Advisors -- customized guides to help pro sports teams implement eco-intelligent practices in their hometowns. By improving energy savings, recycling paper and decreasing waste, teams will help reduce the impact of global warming and protect some of the earth's most important natural resources. They also will see economic benefits that will result from producing less waste and using less energy as they develop more sustainable organizations.
